Hi we are going on a trip to canada and i'd like to have an idea about how much the things there cost for budgetting purposes..

How much do any of these cost:

1 loaf of bread, can of sardines, can of sausage, sandwiches, ice cream, fastfood burger, spaghetti, chicken

Approximately how much would a meal of dining outside cost me?

I'd also appreciate tips on how I could eat, travel, shop and visit attractions at cheap prices.

Thanks

  2. Speaking for the Atlantic Provinces ...

A loaf of bread runs me about 1.99-2.49$, depending on what brand and where I shop.

Chicken b*****s (boneless, skinless), about 10$ per kilo.

Fast food can be had for under 5$. A meal off the value menu at Wendy's comes out to exactly 4.51$. (I eat there a LOT.)

Depending on where you dine out, the expense could come out to around 10$. If you're staying in a hotel or anywhere, you'd be best advised to pick up a two-litre bottle of Pepsi or Coke, rather than buying individual cans all the time when you eat out. You'll save money in the long run, and a 2L bottle costs no more than three individual cans.

KFC or grocery-store-deli fried chicken (if that's what you meant by chicken) will run you about 6-7 dollars for 3 pieces + chips.

Cans of sausages are cheap. I've never bought them because I don't like them. But I know they're not expensive. No more than a dollar a can.

Of course, travel expenses are difficult to approximate because it depends on where you want to travel. Travelling from Montreal to Toronto is cheaper than Toronto to Vancouver, and if you're visiting Atlantic Canada (especially Newfoundland), it's a lot more expensive to get in and out of the provinces.

  3. A loaf or bread is $1.00-$3.00 approx.

    Sardines $1-$2

    Fast food burger $1.50-$5.00

    Pre-packaged sandwich $3.50-$5.00

Not sure about the other items.

Dining out: Fast food meal $5-$9.00

    Decent meal $15-25.00

    Nice meal $25 and up

Traveling cheap will be hard because of the size of the country. Budget a lot of money for this. The train or bus are probably your best options.

  4. Hi, first off where in Canada are you going? When you are buying groceries like you mentioned try to shop at the lower end supermarkets like Food Basics, No Frills, Price Shopper instead of places like Dominion, Loblaws and Sobey's. Just shopping the lower end places can save you dollars on an item.

    - A loaf of bread can cost anywhere from $1 - 3 dollars, Ice cream usually $3-6 and sometimes cheaper when there's sales.

    - Dinning out at a fast food places would run you about $6-$7 for a combo like at McDonald's or Burger King.

    - If you are going to a city like Toronto you can save money by buying a weekly transit pass for unlimited use for the whole week.

    - For attractions you can probably find a package deal that will get you a discount on major attractions- again depends on where you are going.

I recommend calling 1-800-O-CANADA and ask them for tourist information numbers for the particular area you are going to.

I hope you have fun up here! Cheers!
