  1. At petco i got mines for 20$. I'm assuming petsmart is cheaper.

  2. anywhere from $20.00 to $30.00 and alot more if you are also buying supplies and a cage. Find a breeder in your area and go get one of theirs who usually will supply a cage and you will get a better bird alot cheaper too. Even the flea markets sell parakeets for $5.00 per bird here in texas.

they can be loud at times but they arent loud for long periods of time like larger parrots are.

  3. I can't advise you on how much they are at those pet stores because I live in the UK and we don't have them here.

Parakeets/budgerigars can be sort of loud, but not as loud as other birds such as lorikeets. If you get a young budgie, you may find that for the first few weeks he will make a high pitched 'screeching' noise - as this is how they call their parents. They'll grow out of that though.

When you get your budgerigar, remember that he or she is going to be very scared at first (what with leaving its friends and seeing a bunch of strangers), so make sure you help it settle in. Don't make any sudden noises, and avoid getting loads of people to crowd around the cage. Talk to him or her frequently, so that it can get used to your voice. After a month you can then start thinking about training your bird.

In terms of housing, make sure you get a cage big enough for your parakeet. Ask the people at the pet store for advice about this.

  4. Parakeet or budgie? I saw the budgies where I live (at Petco, I believe) going for around $30 (though in MOST stores I have seen them going for around $15-$20) and the parakeets for $400.00!!! Budgies can be pretty noisy but their tone isn't really deafening, not like some of the other birds I've heard =).

    Good luck!

By the way, I am not sure if they still have them in pet stores (at least I haven't seen any in a while,) but they used to have starter kits for specific birds. For a budgie, I believe the kit was between $80-$100. When I was a kid my mom let me get a budgie and we just got a starter kit, which included: the cage; food; lining; a few toys; calcium drops; and a few other items I cannot recall at this time =).

  5. The budgies(the real name of a parakeet) at my petsmart cost around 20$. However, you should really check www.petfinder.com first. There are hundreds of budgies that need homes there, and they're usually already trained and are cheaper than the ones you would get at petsmart. Some even come with a cage and food! Good luck!

  6. At most places a budgie will cost you around $20.  But don't forget, you must have a cage that is large enough (they need plenty of room), and that can cost around $50, maybe more, and you will need toys, and food.  So figure around $100 to $120....
