  1. The interest gets added every 6 months.   Just to give you a general idea, $50 EE bond I have from 8/1994 is currently worth $44.40 and will be worth $45.24 this August.  So if you wait 3 months to cash it, you would get less than a dollar more.

    Average interest rate over that time (yield) has been about 4.3%, but is dropping.  New EE bonds pay lower fixed interest.


  2. Go to the treasury direct website and type in your information.

    From a search engine, type in savings bond calculator.  When you find out the value, don't forget that the interest is taxable.
