well it really depends on the education of the teacher and that what subject to what grade she is teaching but in general they are not paid enough for example my calculus teacher who is a PHD in calculus and statistics gets paid an approximate of Dhs 5,000 which is an approximate of 1,500 USD  which is too little considering her education and the high living costs but how good are the professors in  univesrity are paid  cant even mention. They are paid highly

It varies considerably in different parts of the US. Where I teach in Connecticut, the range is from $45000 to around $110000. Younger teachers can supplement their salaries by sponsoring clubs, coaching, etc. You can also tutor students for around $100 an hour. This is probably higher than most other parts of the US, but it also costs more to live here.

BTW philrobeson, teachers DO NOT get a month off in the summer...we go to continuing education classes (which we often have to pay for ourselves), we create lesson plans, and create a plan that follows our curriculum...and we don't get paid for that.  Not to mention, we usually work more than 10 hours a day...I get to school at 6:30 and don't usually leave till 5ish.  You are showing your ignorance with your statements.

A teacher in America would say not much, but that is because they sit back and listen to other people telling them they should make more and don't see how good they have it with the many days they have off and a whole three-month vacation each year with pay! Wow!! I wish I had ONE month paid vacation per year!!

Not enough in America. Teachers here are told which way to teach these days and not allowed to be the great teachers they can be. People make remarks about the fact they don't work a full year, however, they don't take into this that they have endless hours of paperwork, lesson planning, parent meetings, and we haven't even gotten to the correcting of all the students papers. This and teaching the students on a daily basis is in my opinion  worth far more than they receive now. These men and women are the ones that are going to have a lot to do with inspiring our children to want to go forward, to run with the the ball of the learning process. We all have a teacher we make reference to when  asked who inspired us to have the zest for knowledge we have today.
