My mom recently got caught not knowing a road was closed off because fire engines were responding to a traffic accident. She was told by friends it could cost her $1500 or more due to the nature of the violation.

  1. Her friends werent joking.  It really depends on what she was charged with.  Look the section up, it will have the penalties listed in the section, or will reference another seciton that has the penalties.

  2. yes those are normally big fines. not good to mess with the police or fire when they close roads, thats how guys get killed trying to save others

  3. It depends on the law of your area.  Need to do some research on the internet for costs in your area.  Her friends

may be correct - interfering with fire department is more costly that some other infractions.

  4. if a road is closed off it has to be plainly marked. in the event of an emercency, (traffic accident) police, fire or other rescue vehicles, with flashing lights on suffice as a roadblock, but if it wasn't clear, or no one was directing traffic she may have a case agianst the ticket. how did she not know? was she on a side street that fed into the street that was closed? did she drive past a police car sitting at an intersection with  a policemen waving his arms to turn right or left. they can't just say that a road is closed without giving somekind of warning to drivers on the road. need more details to really answer though
