It all depends on which city and if there is only one transport operator.  Where I live there are 2 transport companies that do have the city each and they have their own tickets and prices, which you can NOT use on the other companies services.

i just rang tfl for u and a 1 day travel card zones 1-4 will cost u £5.70 for off peak and £9 peak.....hope it helps

£3.60 by bus I think! Which is great seeing as its £2.00 on one journey by bus.
