  1. Do you already have an electric car? I have debates with my fiance about this all the time. He is a great NPR fan and thinks that the electric car will be a great money saver. Let's face it..will you be able to get anyone to fix it?? Can you find the parts??? No one I ever have met can. Good luck to you if you can. I am afraid by the time you are done you'll have invested enough to have the non electric car of your dreams. If you don't have one yet wait until this technology is more common. I wish you luck. I did find one site that can help.

  3. Depends on the manufacturer. Very cool package is available from Tesla Motors for 100 000 USD. Their future plan is to half the price.

  4. Depending on your definition of "car"

You can get motor of a few hundred watts for a small car (bicycle sized) from a few hundred dollars including controller. To a drive system similar to the one in the Tesla for around $32000. (three phase ac induction see metric mind below)

The battery can vary from about a hundred dollars for a small short range lead acid, to many thousands for a 1000 lb Lithium Manganese long range high performance number.

Other hardware a gearbox, steering, chassis, body work etc.

What do you have in mind?
