How much is boat (to own)?

i want one with a top deck that 5ish peeps can sit on and then a captains chair and then an under art thing with a booth

about how much is that gonna be?

sounds like more than you can afford. LOL. You can probably buy a used one for $10-15, 000. You can probably buy a NON-running one for much less, and sit in it in your driveway. But a boat with an upper deck is usually in the 25' and above size, and way more expensive than a smaller 16' - 20' sized boat. one guy told me motors go for $100 per HP, so a 200 HP motor ALONE would cost you 20,000. Not sure how true that is, but probably is close. Check Craigslist in your area, you might find one cheaper, or a police auction purchase that can be had.

How long is a piece of string? You can find crusing yachts for as little as a grand(or less) up to millions of dollars.

The smaller you go, the less it cost's, I have a 15' Boston Whaler, yearly dockage is $550 (that's cheap), "Sea Tow" is $149 per year, Tune up (done myself, about, $125 (plugs and water pump).

Then you might need to replace the bilge pump or something, so add about another $35.

Insurance (optional $150 per year)

Battery may be needed $60

winter storage (my driveway because the boat is small).

Launch & recovery for the year (free I use the ramp and my trailer, again because, I'm a small boat).

Then we have "Trailer parts" for maint. and all the other things that broke while operating during the year, some wood needs to be re-done with stain, poly, etc, not much wood, and it makes the boat look great, so it add's up quickly, and this is without any surprises, a new 50 H.P left over motor was over $5000 with installation and cable, and "Helm". Re-wiring electrical, is always done by me.

I just saw one last week sitting in a lot. Found and asked the owner how much and he wanted for it and he said $2500. Was a 30 footer with sleeping for 6, aft cabin, twin engines. I already have a project boat I'm working on now or she would have been mine that day. She was in rough shape. Would probably take about another $2500 to make her sea-worthy if you did all the work yourself. If you want one that is ready to hit the water, expect to pay around 5 to 10 times that price. If you want one to work on and know her inside and out, keep an eye out on the side of the road, in lots, boats that look abandoned, find out who the owner is. You may just find a good deal. Boats require a lot of money to maintain properly if you don't take care of everything yourself, eg. have a shop do winterize and all.  Low end props cost around $125 to $250 so if you hit something and don't have a spare, you're screwed. A tow bill at our local lake is $600. Hopefully a friendly boater would tow you back to the ramp. I'd get out and swim and pull the boat back to the ramp before I'd pay that amount :)

But you can't beat cruising across the water in your own boat. It makes it all worth it.

They go roughly as much as cars do, depending on what you're looking for, the more luxuries it has, the more it's going to be. Check Ebay.com or you're newspaper adds for them, and find out if there are any local dealers.
