In UK it's known as petrol. Gas comes through pipes and is used for cooking and heating. two nations separated by  a common language.  

It is about £1.12   a litre (4.5 litres to the imperial Gallon )  which is about £5.04 per imperial Gallon. A US gallon is about 80% of an imperial gallon therefore   £4.03 per US gallon very roughly $7.51

God knows, it was £1.18 a litre last week at my local garage, now its £1.12

Dont know about the rest of the country but here in Aberdeen one of the Shell garages are charging £1.19 a litre for diesel.  It just seems to be coming down in price for some reason.
