I would guess that depending on where you live, you will get a different estimate.  In CT, it cost me approximately $450 per horse, this was a yearling colt.  Any additional info you might need: you should avoid gelding during fly season.  Actually, many vets will not geld during this time.  You can feel whether or not your colt's testicles have descended on both sides, but of course, when checking this particular area you should take care :)

    If they haven't, you will need to bring your horse somewhere and have surgery performed, (a simple gelding can be done at your own home) which may cost up to $1,000 (again, in CT).  You will need this because though your horse will be sterile (too warm up in there!) he will still display stallion characteristics and behaviors due to the testosterone.  Hopefully I'm not repeating what you know, just making sure all the bases are covered.  Good luck.


  2. Each vet is different. It also depends on the area you are in. It could range anywhere between $150 to over $500. It also depends on the individual horse.
