I have a 5 year old cousin who my aunt wants to change her last name. She has her father's last name and her mom wants her to have her last name. How much would it cost to change it. We live in the State of Texas if that helps. She doesn't speak to her father but her father's name is on her birth certificate. Would she be able to change it.

  1. When I was 17 I had my last named changed to my step dad's and it cost around $400. I had to get my birth certificate amended as well and that cost around $25.00. She would be able to change it as long as there is a good reason and it sounds like it is so it should be no problem.

  2. unless the court gets the father's signiture.. she is able to have it changed.. but it does cost a few hundred dollars.. including the lawyer fee.. nd court fee.. nd errythang else.. =]

  3. Call the clerk of the court in the county she lives in. They will be able to tell you exactly. Expect the fee to be in the hundreds, not tens or thousands. You probably won't need a lawyer, unless the bio dad objects
