  1. I'm not sure if its the same, but i've had rabbits and guinea pigs neutered, both cost £55 but i was quoted £70 at another vets. They are classed as exotics but the main reason for them being more expensive than dogs is that they have to have an extra person in theatre - they aren't as heavily anaesthetised as they have a tendency to die under anaesthetic! Also, keeping 2 males is a bit hit and miss - i've housed male rabbits and guineas together with no problem as they have been brothers, however i tried to put 2 neutered males together from different litters and they nearly killed eachother!!!

  2. They will tend to fight during the mating season, which is about March - August. Some have been know to kill each other. How ever if you have them castrated they can be housed together no problem.

The cost of castration varies, depending on where you live. I had two castrated and micro chipped and it cost £105. Just castration was £55 for the two. If you get some from a ferret rescue, if they are 6months or older they will have been castrated and they're around £35 each.

It may seem a lot but if you have them from kits, save a couple of pound a week and by the time they're 6months you'll have save up the money to have them done.

Wishing you lots of fun with your new little fuzzies.

  3. Depending on where you get them they could already be neutered.

    Think of adopting...

But if you do need to get them fixed. Please wait till they are 4 months of age. this helps with less problems in the future. And you have to ask your local ferret friendly vets. It really depends on how much they charge. I have heard of it being as low as $60 and as high as $300...

  4. Yes.. In the USA, most breeders and pet shops sell their ferrets neutered and descented.  Vet charges vary from city to city so it is best to find a vet in you area and ask them what they charge.  If you are not in the states, owning a ferret is very different.

Ferrets that are litter mates get along the best so don't worry about that.  As a first time ferret owner, you can adopt a bonded pair from a rescue group or shelter that needs a forever home and will be socialized to people.  Your local rescue people are great resources to become familiar with for all your ferret needs.  They are usually experienced in every imaginable situation that a little ferret will encounter.  Good resource to know and they always have plenty of kids.
