  1. Depends.

To rent ice time costs quite a bit, but you probably wouldn't rent a rink just for yourself to go skating.

Sometimes there is a public skate and you can go for a couple of dollars ($5 or less)

Most cities have a large, outdoor public rink (Olympic Plaza in Calgary, Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto, etc...), and it's free.

In Calgary for sure, there are dozens of outdoor rinks in city parks all over the city, where you can go and skate or join a shinny hockey game for $0

You can skate on the lake at Lake Louise in Banff National Park for free as well.  They'll even rent you skates for a couple of dollars.

  2. Generally not much. Indoors can be maybe five bucks for public, but for freestyles maybe 10 bucks an hour or so.

Outdoors is about the same, but sometimes you can sneak in for free!! Lol this is not suggested or condoned in any way, but rarely they care enought to kick you out. Not that ive ever done it...
