  1. Take lessons, you don't need your own clubs, do NOT go to a golf course until you are able to hit a ball down the fairway.

  2. The price of golf varies quite a bit. Typically, greens fees or the price to play a round of golf is around $35 - $40 with a cart. Most places will rent clubs. I am not sure the price, but it would be a good way to start out if you haven't played before. A starter set of clubs will set you back about $200. If you could borrow a set from a friend, that would be even better.

When you do go out, you should play with someone that is experienced in the game so that they can give you pointers on how to play. It is not as simple as it looks. There is also a level of ediquette that other golfers expect from you. Most golfers will fill you in if you are breaking the rules.

If you can borrow a set of clubs, take them to the driving range and get a bucket of balls and start swinging. You will find that striking the ball just right is more difficult than it looks. However, once you get the hang of it, the game is addicting.

Check out the site below for some pointers and basics of the game.

I wish you luck and have fun.

  3. The first three answers were very useful.

If you've never  played golf before you should go to a driving range first to develop your ability to hit a golf ball. You should also find material that describes the game in simple terms. If you know someone who plays lots of golf you should ask them for advice on some of the etiquette and procedures when playing.

The best way to begin is to play a par-3 or executive course (if there are any available near you). Short courses tend to have more beginner golfers and will be easier for you to play, as the rules and procedures are the same as on a US Open golf course.

Oh! And don't be discouraged your first time out. Taking up golf is like any worth while endeavor: If it was easy nobody would play golf.

    Good luck!

  4. I highly advise you to go to a driving range(some golf courses have their own but I'm sure there's a dozen in any given town). Try your best, an average golf course is for those with common knowledge of the game and ball striking. Try to look for a 9 hole golf course and/or a municipal golf course, both are easier for beginners and have lower costs.

As for your question, it can vary from $10-$60(I'm assuming you're not heading into a private golf course). Most places give you the option but they might be worn out. It really doesn't matter for a beginner though.

    Good luck!
