I would really like to travel and go study in Ireland for a semester, but about how much is the program. I have seen it range from 6,000, a reasonable amount, all the way up to 14,000. I would really like to transfer there for a semester, but if it is going to cost up to 14 grand, is there any support or programs you can enter so you dont have to pay the whole thing- at least not up front?

  1. Usually if you do it through a university study abroad, they have available scholarships.  The downside is that you will likely have to pay tuition and a program fee, though these will vary in price.

  2. You can try to visit this website which I just came across, there are a lot of information on Study Abroad, hopefully may help you:

  3. In my experience - I studied abroad in both high school and college.  I found the best deals to be going through a program at the University.  Generally speaking, their will be an office of International Studies or an office for International Students.  One of these offices should have some information for you. They also will have information about financial aid - grants, loans, scholarships.

Also, if you get involved with a Key Club, Kiwannas, Lions, etc.  you might be able to get additional funding.  There are lots of civic and social organizations that promote studies abroad.  They often offer private scholarships and/or grants!

    Good Luck!

  4. I suggest you head over to the Travel - Ireland section and ask how much the cost of living is for a student, first in Ireland in general and then in Dublin. Try to figure out what students spend on rent, food and other necessities and how much they pay for tuition fees in your field of study.

With these numbers in your head you can then figure out how much you are going to need.

The problem with the exchange programs is that it is hard to tell what exactly the fees are for. Check carefully: Do they cover tuition, rent at a student dorm and the flights or just the tuition?
