How much is my chinchilla worth?

I love my Chinchi.. But I'm very short on cash & just buying all the supplies for him has put me further back. So, I've decided to sell him.

I'd be selling him with all his toys, a few containers of dust bath, with his bath house, cage, a good few months of food & bedding, ext.

The cage new cost me around 175.. it has not holes that his feet could become stuck in & it's a very good condition.

Now, the chinchi, he cost me about 250..

He's three years old & VERY VERY kind. Loves to play and be petted. Would be amazing for anyone wanting a pet that gives attention but doesn't have the space for a dog.

Well.. What do you think? How much could I sell him for? I just don't know what to ask.

  1. It depends on the coat.  Just because you bought him for $250 doesn't mean he is worth $250.  The ones at PetCo are around $250 but standard greys really aren't worth that much. Lilacs, whites, and blacks (especially black velvet) tend to sell for more.  A panda could sell for well over $2000 but thats because they're rare.

  2. You've got a "good few months" worth of food and bedding, so what exactly is it that you can't afford? You've already got everything he needs, so where's the problem?

You definitely will not get $250 for him, but you probably know that. He's already 3 years old and most chinchillas sell around 100-150 bucks in pet shops, so 100 bucks would probably be your limit. As for the supplies, Add up their initial cost and cut it by 30 percent or so. If the price tag is too large, lots of people won't want to buy him. They'll just get a chinchilla on its own and get their own supplies.

Please ask to meet the new owners and check them out before giving him up to someone.. I am inclined to agree with Kelsey although I do think she's being a bit more harsh than I'd be. As always, there are many sides to everything.. Just make sure he goes to a good home.
