I found a 1980 50 pence coin in my garden and I'm wondering how much it's worth

And it will be worth its exchange value, when spent in the UK: currently around $1 US or about 65 Euro cents.  These coins were minted in large quantities and generally aren't worth more than their face value to coin collectors.
