  1. That depends on the other ingredients:  For example, if it said 1 part vodka to 2 parts tomato juice, then it would be 1/3 vodka and 2/3 tomato juice in the total amount.  Those parts could be ounces, jiggers, cups, or galloons - just keep the equivalent measuements the same......

  2. most recipes that call for parts are ratios so if they say 1 part vodka to 2 parts chocolate liquor to 1 part amaretto it would be 1:2:1 so you could go 1 ounce, 2 ounces, 1 ounce.  but if you were making bulk you could go 1 pint, 2 pints, to 1 pint. and so on.

  3. a regular 1 oz shot

  4. A 'part' is a generic measuring scale.  For example, if it says one part vodka, one part triplesec, two parts cranberry juice and a twist of lime (basic cosmopolitan), then you can use whatever measurements you want: shots, cups, tablespoons, and scale it up or down.

In a lot of scenarios bartenders or hosts will be making cocktails for a group of people, so it's easiest to let them use their own standards.

  5. one ounce

  6. This refers to the relative amount of the different parts of a drink recipe.  The exact amount depends on how much you're mixing.

For example, six parts vodka, one part vermouth could mean 6 ounces vodka to one ounce of vermouth, or it could mean 6 pints of vodka to one pint of vermouth, and so on.  That way you can use the recipe to make one small drink or a whole punch bowl full of drinks.

  7. Presumably you are mixing vodka with something else. So the final drink may be one part vodka to two parts something else. The one part can be any size you like from a thimble to a bucket and the two parts will be two thimbles- or two buckets-full of the something else. Its a somewhat perculiar way of expressing the ratio of vodka to the other liquid.
