I usually drink stella artois which is 5.2% alcohol volume.

how many units are there in a pint of this stuff and how many units can you have before breaching the drink drive limit?

Also, if i were to drink ten to fifteen pints over a five hour period, could pass a police breath or blood test as i must have digested or sweated a lot of the units out of my system.

  1. 0.8

  2. One sip is over the drink driving limit as far as I'm concerned.

I plan to drive, I don't drink. Period.  What's the point?  Everything to lose and nothing to gain.....

  3. More than 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath

    or

80 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood

with "fifteen pints over a five hour period" you will be at least 3x over the legal limit after the 5th hour. no matter how much you sweat.

The guide is 12 hours from the last drink untill you will pass the test, but if you drink 15 pints of stella, thats quite excessive, so make the 12 hours 18 hours or more

  4. Any alcohol in any shape matter or form is to much .

  5. Is the beer really that important? One can then hang around for an hour. It takes an hour to burn off a pint, so at the end of Your 5 hour session You'll get a ban.

  6. About 3 units in a pint I think?

Ten to fifteen pints in 5 hours... that means 3 an hour yes? I think you're supposed to limit yourself to one drink or two, and waiting an hour before driving. So I'd say you were pushing it, if not over. It takes a long time to lose alcohol from your system completely.

I choose to just forget drinking completely, if driving. once you start it can get out of hand, and before you know it, you're drunk and believe you can still drive. then you end up killing yourself or some other poor driver out there, just for a few hours of fun.

Better to be safe than sorry :)

  7. Unless you are the incredible hulk one yes ONE pint will take you very close if not over the limit.

    DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE.

If you regularly drink 15 pints you will be over the limit for at least 24 hours, that's if you can still tell the time. If you do it frequently your coffin will be over the limit

  8. The legal limit varies on where you live.  Different states/provinces have different laws.

Also, every person reacts differently to alcohol.  A lot of it has to do with your body weight and tolerance to alcohol.  However, it is a pretty safe assumption to say that if you drink 2 or 3 pints of beer per hour for a 5 hour period, you will be legally drunk.  Also, contrary to some popular beliefs, once alcohol enters your blood stream, you cannot "sober" yourself up faster by drinking coffee, sweating it out ( as you put it ) or any so called miracle-cures.  Only time diminishes the effects of alcohol.

  9. not all states are the same but tht sounds like WAY too much

  10. I would say that 15 pints in 5 hours is excessive by any measure and would certainly put you over the limit for driving.  If I am driving I would not normally drink any alcoholic drink with the exception on one glass of beer with say a pub meal or a glass of wine at a formal dinner

  11. ONE DRINK and you are over the limit!!!

Don't even consider drinking & driving!  You are utterly irresponsible to get behind the wheel and drive with alcohol in your system.  You put the rest of us at risk when you act in such a manner.

If you drive drunk and have an accident, the costs you will incur far exceed taking a taxi home.  If you KILL someone, you could go to jail.

  12. From experience, I'd say that you could drink 2 pints, with an hours gap bewtween them, then leave at least a 1hr gap afterwards, and before long, you re fit to drive again.

    Try the NHS's website. http://www.nhs.gov.uk/units

    Not sure if its correct.

  13. There is no exact answer to determine how much you have to drink to reach the legal limit for driving.   However, there is a way to approximate whether you are approaching the legal limit in your state (usually 0.08 blood alcohol level) based on your weight, how much you have had to drink, and how long you have been drinking.  For example:

If you are around 100 lbs., you can generally only have about one serving of alcohol before being over 0.08, and only two servings before being above 0.1 (for those states where the legal limit 0.1)

However, a person is closer to 160 lbs. can have about 3 servings of alcohol and still be below the legal limit for driving

A good rule of thumb to use is that no matter what your weight is, if you have had three servings of alcohol in rapid succession you are most likely over the legal limit for blood alcohol level when driving.

Your blood alcohol level will also depend on how much time you have spent drinking.  If you have a spaced your drinks out over a lengthy period of time, such as the span of a few hours, your blood alcohol level is going to be significantly lower than if you had the same amount of drinks in the span of one hour.  Generally, you can subtract 0.01% from your estimated blood alcohol level for each 40 minutes that go by while drinking.

  14. UK law allows you to drink something and still drive. However, many people think that you should not drink at all but I think this isn't always practical.

The amount that you can drink is really quite small and I'd be loath to drink more than one or two drinks in one whole evening. Standard beer is about 3.2% ABV. Stella is significantly more and I'd guess that the average person is pushing the drink drive limit by drinking a pint and a half over two hours. Drinking two pints of Stella is like drinking a three and a half pints of standard beer.

One of the problems with beer is that people don't look at it differently depending on the alcohol content of each product. Standard beer, like John Smith's, is much less alcoholic, while Belgian Trappist beer should be consumed more like wine.

Ten to fifteen pints of Stella is serious binge drinking. It's not an alcohol consumption level that you should consider doing any more than once in a blue moon. It's the kind of consumption that can lead to serious health conditions, such as sclerosis of the liver and kidney failure. It's also highly calorific and could contribute to obesity.

  15. As far as I know but don't quote me on any of this.

There no hard and fast rules as it depends on the person but I wouldn't recommend drinking 2 pints of Stella.

I think 2 standard pints and you would be just under but that was based on a pint being 3.6% and not 5.2%.

Based on what I know you should not drive on more than 4 units and Stella is 2.2 units, so would put you over.

It takes approx 1 hour per unit to absorb so a 3.6 % pint would be out of your system in 2 hours.

Apparently this only applies when you stop drinking and you do not absorb any alcohol while still drinking.

Food and caffine also do not speed up the process.

If you must have a drink and still drive, only have one pint of Stella.

    Hope this helps.

  16. I don't know the exact math behind it... but personally I think people trying to do rules of thumb or percentages or whatever are just tempting fate, and will eventually get what they have coming. Different people are affected diferently by alcohol. Factors such as age, body type, genetics, altitude, health, exercise, past meals, etc. all play a role in how much alcohol you can handle. If the stars align, 1 drink will put you over. By contrast, stars align on the other side and you can down 7 drinks and still be sober.

I agree with the people saying if you drink, don't drive. Simple as that.
