  1. They take one applicant out of four. You can specify regions, not specific countries. Your living allowance will depend on your posting; rural PCV's usually get less than urban ones. It will let you live at a modest scale. You won't starve, but you won't have a frappichino from Starbucks every morning. Exactly how much you get will depend on the cost of living the year you are accepted.

    My daughter in Peru gets roughy $350 a month. She is paid in Peruvian Soles and the exchange rate fluctuates. I got $110, but that was long ago. I got roughly what a brand new college graduate at an upriver school would get.

    They provide medical and dental care. If you live in Government housing (I lived at a boarding school) you get less than if you have to rent.

    Money should be the least of your worries.
