Im hoping to move into a small unit with my boyfriend and really need to know how much we'd have to pay for gas, electric and water bills per month. We dont have any large t.vs or computers. So we wont be using too much, just enough to cook dinner at night, have showers and wash our clothes etc. It'd really help if someone could give me a detailed answer on how much im looking at. Thankyou.

  1. It definitely depends on where you live.  I would ask the apartment complex for an average.  Sometimes they will be able to give you a ball park figure.  What really costs a lot of money are items like air conditioning and your clothes dryer.  If you can watch what your AC is set on and limit turning off and on your clothes dryer you will save a lot of money.  Also I would look into having your payments averaged.  This is where the gas or electric company averages your payments out over a 12 month billing cycle.  Some energy companies do this and some do not.

Know your utilities.  Know whether your heat is gas or electric, know whether you water is gas or electric.  Etc.  This can help you pick places to conserve.

My boyfriend and I live in an upstairs apartment in Oklahoma...water, sewer, and trash are included in our rent.

All of our utilities are electric...our summer electric bills run from $80 to $250, but our winter bill is considerably lower, as low as $45.  Our electric company does not offer payment averaging:(  We bundle our phone, internet, and cable for $90/month.  None of our utilties are gas, so no bill for that.  Food runs us about $100 bi-weekly, sometimes more if we eat out.  We have two jobs and two cars, right now it almost costs us more to go to work because of gas.  But anyways.

    Some conservation tips...

~Check you light bulbs to make sure they're energy efficient

~Might pay off to use the apartment's laundromat instead of the dryer.

~Keep blinds closed during the heat of the day

    ~Go to garage sales

    Hope this helps!

  2. gas in summer is close to $60... in the winter it can be over $300 (depending on where you live)

electric is about $25 in winter and $60 in summer

water is every 3 months and about $40 (or $12 a month)

  3. It really depends on where you live. Our electric in one house is $30/ month, in our other house it is $100. Our gas can be anywhere from $30 to $300 per month.  Your town offices may be able to tell you the usual rate for water.
