Wat about coming back from palo alto to san ramon in the evening (starting 4 pm).

We are planning to buy a house in windemere (san ramon, ca) and both me and my husband work in palo alto. We really like the house and the community but are skeptical abt the commute! is it worth commuting so much? We are also expecting our first kid around april next yr (same time we would move in to the house). Is it going to be impossible to manage with a small kid?

  1. I'd say about an hour.

  2. Way too long. Seriously, to live in the bay area is brutally annoying as it is....but to want to commute as well during rush hour - can you say "NUTSO"?

  3. First of all....what people won't do for money. The Bay area has the highest cost of living in the US bar none and such a commute would be brutal even on a good day! If you must make the commute try public transit. From San Ramon take either CCCTA #121 or Wheels #70x buses to the nearby Dublin BART station, then BART rail to Union City station and finally the DB express bus to Palo Alto. This might be the only stress free way to survive such a lifestyle. Either way you are looking at about a 2 hour trip in each direction by transit or by car. Cost would be about the same considering transit fares vs. gas & tolls. Good Luck.

  4. We made the decision recently and are moving to Windemere next month. Commute is going to be 1.5-2hrs. Both of us work in Palo Alto, so we plan on commuting together some days, taking company shuttle some, and working from home some days. If you have such options, it might work out. We also have kids, but have grandparents living with us as well. So if you are going to hire or have help for kids, again you could manage it.
