online is says starting at $199 but that usually means more than that

Based on the internet prices (which are almost always the same as the store prices) it is around $199.99 (USD). If you want to know in your area, call the closest apple store which can be found here:

The non-contracted iPhone 8GB goes for $599. The $199 price is if you buy it through AT&T with one of their contracts.  But I am not sure if you can buy them without a contract in the US at least.  If you buy it from the Apple store they can still activate it there with AT&T.

Its $200 but you have to add tax

For example Pennsylvania state tax is .07

so its 0.07 x 200 = 14 so add that to 200 and that's the sells tax

You have to add att's add a line and activation fee if your a current customer. But if you are not a current customer you have to add $36 dollars for the activation fee and new line
