Costa do pay the mimimum wage correctly, share tips accordinly. The Government has announced that the adult minimum wage rate will rise from £5.52 to £5.73 an hour in October. The youth rate for those aged 18 to 21 will be increased from £4.60 to £4.77. The Government has also said that the rate for workers aged 16-17 years should increase from £3.40 to £3.53. No company has to pay you more for working a saturday or sunday. How does this person know that this 16yr old girl they know, isn't lieing or they've got a grude againt costa and theyre makeing this up. Some companys do give profit share, as stated Waitrose. It's not compulsory tho, so costa dont have to pay it. Waitrose dont have bowls next to theyre till's expecting a tips for them scanning your shopping.

A 16 year-old girl I know was working there for about £4.50 per hour.  The didn't pay extra for Sundays either.  i think Coast is a franchise, so I suppose the owners can pay what they like (within the rules about minimum wage etc.)  In this girl's case, she was also done out of a share of the tips, because although she had worked all last summer, she did not get her fair share of the tips as the manager said she was only part-time, even tho she was full-time for the period in which the tips were collected in.

If you are thinking of working for them, I would try a more reputable outfilt - go to a shop with proper pay and working conditions or better still with a profit share like Waitrose.  Good luck!
