I was going to apply for a job in a wedding reception working in the kitchen as a dishwasher/kitchen hand. Does any body know approx how much p/hr you get? It will be nights and on weekends? thank you.

  1. This depends on the city.

You have posted this in the Melbourne section so I assume that your looking for this type of work in Melbourne.

The answer really depends on labour supply verses demand.

The award rate might apply, but in cities like Perth with a chronic shortage of staff and a booming amount of work to be done these sorts of jobs are getting big bucks. Remember casual loading adds 30%. It's not unusual in Perth to make $60,000 a year from this type of work, but in Melbourne that might be different.

Traditionally it was low paid work, and will probably be like that in areas where there are plenty of people to do that work and when business is slow.

Most wedding receptions occur on weekends and week nights and catering staff would rarely be home before 2am so you will need a reliable car and a packet of no-doze.
