  1. You can get a small apartment in Verdun, St. Henri or some of the less expensive parts of Montreal for about CAD$500 per month, but if you plan to be downtown, or living in a more expensive neighbourhood like Westmount or NDG, then you can expect to pay as much as CAD$2000 per month. Leases are generally for one year.

If you want to get an idea of some apartments or houses available for renting, check the mls site listed below.

  2. Depends what size apartment you want and how close to downtown. You should have given a bit more info.

Generally I guess you could say that for directly directly downtown you're looking at a one bedroom apartment for at least 700 bucks (and it can definitely be more depending how fancy you're looking for). If you go further for the downtown area (but still on the metro line) you could find a similar place for 400-500. It really depends. If you are coming with a friend/family the cost of a larger apartment is proportionally better. So if you plan on sharing a place and getting a 2 or 3 bedroom you could only be paying 800-1000 (depending on location).

Anyways, I know that was a little vague but I hope that helped!
