  1. according to http://www.nadaguides.com , your 1984 evinrude 15hp rope start outboard is worth $75.

but nadaguides.com is pretty worthless when it comes to boat motors (just my opinion).

If the motor starts easily & has good compression, you should be able to find somebody with a couple or three hundred dollars they're willing to part with.

  2. At least a couple of hundred> do a compression check and run for a while to see it dosen't over heat> & check the lower unit for water>

  3. Well, judging by the outside condition shown in your photos, you are going to have to take a reasonably lower amount than what would be assessed for "fair condition" price.

Here are some obvious things I spotted that might warn away potential buyers:

Corroded Prop, Rust and excessive corrosion spots on the lower unit area, outboard needs to cleaned, it is sitting in the open elements without a cover, and also sitting without a stand to protect it.

Now since you haven't provided a picture of the outboard with the motor cover off, I have to guess its had slightly more than the usual use and abuse.

Secondly, who did the testing and how?  Was this an experienced boater, a marine mechanic, or someone without much boat maintenance experience?  Also, where and how did you test the outboard?

I say without a OMC mechanic's look at the outboard's condition, $350 cash at best.  This outboard looks like its been abused a little bit more than it should and not maintained properly.

It needs new prop, probably lower unit checked out, lower unit sanded and repainted with marine grade parts paint to stop corrosion, etc.

  4. That is a 1984.  If it is in clean condition, with good compression, and no problems, ask a grand, settle for 750

  5. look around this website and see if there are similar motors and compare prices
