  1. You have to take into account several factors before you can give an exact value to the penny you have found. It doesn't just get assigned a value, and that value goes for all. Numismatics doesn't work that way.

First, you must know from which mint was your penny made? To find this, look just below the mark that specifies the coin's date. You should either see a "D", an "S", or no mark at all. The D means that the coin was minted in Denver. The S means the San Fransisco mint (this mint no longer produces pennies). And, if the penny has no mint mark, it was made in Philadelphia (the Philadelphian coins are most common, so chances are that you coin probably won't have a D or S).

Secondly, you must take into account the condition of the coin. The better the condition, the higher the value. If your 1919 is shiny, with a fresh appearance, it will fetch a lot more than the same penny from the same mint that is used, worn, and jagged.

Here are the most common values for your 1919 coin (in $)...

    A Philadelphian 1919, in mint condition: 9.00

A Philadelphian 1919, in rather good condition: 0.75

    A Denver 1919, in mint condition: 50.00

A Denver 1919, in rather good condition: 2.20

A San Franciscan 1919, in mint condition: 36.00

A San Franciscan 1919, in rather good condition: 1.70

So, your penny could be worth as little as 75c, or as much as $50. Condition is a huge factor, as well as the mint location. If your coin is not in decent shape, don't even bother looking up value; as it won't be worth your troubles.

  2. 1 cent or 1/100th of a dollar

  3. More than likely, only a penny.  Just because it is old, doesn't mean it's very valuable.

Have you searched on eBay?  They have quite a few coin collectors on there so if you see someone else selling that particular coin, you would have an idea.

You could also go to the library and see if they have any books about coin collecting to see if there's anything special on pennies from that year that might make it worth more.

  4. Might be worth a penny. Might be worth a dollar or two. What kind of condition is it in? Does it have a mint mark?

Check eBay and see what similar coins are selling for.
