Question:

How much is to much food for a fork or spoon

I was told on a fork or spoon to never load up food more then half way. About 1/4 way of food on either is proper. And to always place the tip of your fork or spoon in or under the food on your plate so that people sitting by or near you will not see the food smear on your fork or spoon

Is that right?

  1. That's true.. especially true if you work like me as a health care worker and have to help some disabled people to eat.. you only fill the spoon half full..  they have problems swallowing anyhow. but in polite society you also don't heap a full spoon full of food.. that looks greedy.. but if you are alone and very hungry.. it doesn't matter.. x*x

  2. As long as the bite isn't more than you can chew and it doesn't fall off the spoon or fork before you get it to your mouth, I'd say your showing decent manners.

  3. That sounds right to me. Otherwise loading up your fork will make it look like you are so ravenous that you have to shovel. HA!

As for the spoon, I think there is a little more leeway with that. It's hard not to scoop up a good soup!

  4. The guideline is a good one. Follow it and you will not be incorrect.  As to food smearing on your utensil, this is a minor concern.  Of course, you don't want to look like you're chowing down as some trough, but if a bit of food smears itself about nobody will have a heart attack at the sight of it.
