I'm planning to take at least 11 AP classes in high school (I'm going to be a sophomore, and I can only take one this year)...is this too much?

  1. If you're okay with work, you're fine.

  2. I haven't taken any yet (I'm taking two as a junior this year) but that sounds incredibly challenging.  Definitely talk to your counselor and remember that extra-curriculars are just as important!

  3. If you think you can handle it that's great. It's less to do when you get to college and you'll be glad you did it. Plus, contrary to some belief colleges prefer to see lower grades in more challenging courses, rather than straight A's in average classes.

However, think about it thoroughly before you just decide. You may get overwhelmed with so much work to do. I am taking one AP course this year (US History) and I just got a letter in the mail the other day for a summer assignment. I have less than a month to do this in and I had to pick up books from the guidance office at school. There are 6 books, and I have to read like 5 chapters in each, answer a bunch of questions, write an essay....

It's not that much but if I was taking 5 of these courses I don't know if I could handle it.

So you have to make the decision, no one knows how much you can handle and what you are capable of better than you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! Hope I helped :)

  4. If you can handle that and enjoy the challenge then no. Just remember that in AP classes you need to make sure to push yourself and make your deadlines. Also be prepared, study, and know that taking a lot of AP classes means sacrificing some social time. Hope you do well!
