I am 23 years old male. About 6 weeks ago I got my jaw broken. I am now drinking lots of milk every day plus vitamin and a calcium pill that is 600. What could happened if I took too much calcium? How do I know how much is too much?

Thanks in advance…

  1. depend on your serum calcium level and your medical history

  2. Although the body has mechanisms for regulating the calcium in your body - this is only within normal intake levels.

I'd recommend you stick to the RDA of 500mg-1000mg as calcium is toxic in excess and can cause kidney and bladder stones (see link http://www.independentliving.co.uk/miner...

It seems like you're not crazily overdosing, as the milk calcium is rarely absorbed fully, but I'd lose one of the pills. What might help more is taking the RDA of both calcium and vit D (which helps to absorb it).

    Hope you feel better soon!
