  1. well i have some dog food in my online store there is  d**k van pattons, nutro, cesar millan, innovae, candidae,  and a bunch of otheres,  you can go to feed store and get nutro, or to pet smart and get all kinds of dog foods that are expensive.Costco has kirkland.   I guess it comes down to find the best ingredients (and there are sites that compare) that fits your budget and works for your dog.

for example mine do BEST on lamb rice adn not on chicken.

  2. I can't put a price on the health and nutrition of a dog.

You can research foods on this site - Stick with something in the 5-6 star range - http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_...

  3. My dog gets Canidae - about 40lbs for $40. He likes it, since I've put him on it instead of the purina c**p my parents were feeding him, he's looking so much better and his allergies are all but gone =] Kinda pricy compared to what he's always eaten, but its definitely worth it

  4. Honestly, don't think of dog food as just food and think of it as a long term investment into their health. Best is to ask the vet for suggestions (they usually sell the good brands) and mix the food with fresh boiled meats and veggies.

Keep the dog food as natural as possible without any colors or additives. My dog just got diagnosed with tumors and I'm truly wondering the various causes of this....

He's been on boiled unseasoned chicken breast and a variety of boiled veggies (Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers, broccoli) for the past week and he's incredibly happy! His bowel movements are great and he's just much better.

Look for dog food recipes and mix it in his dog food to give him a better level of nutrition and avoid future health problems.

    All the best.

  5. I've had a number of dogs, and tried just about everything (besides the cheap stuff) I find that the best dog food I've ever giving my dogs is "Diamonds."  Their coats are smooth, and they never stink, plus they love it!  I get it at Tractor and Supplies stores, or any local pet stores often carry the brand. Its only about 15 bucks for a 20 pound bag, or around 30$ for a 50 pound bag... I won't buy my dogs anything else.  People always compliment me on my dogs shiny coats, and lack of smell too!

  6. It depends on your budget and what you can afford.  We all want to give our dogs the very best, but in actuality, we can't skip meals so our dogs can eat.  You have to do research and find the best that you can reasonably afford.  You can also give extra protein and some table foods that are good for dogs.  Check out these sites:

I'd stay away from grocery store brands if I could, and I also don't like Iams, Science Diet, or Eukanuba.  Corn is a cheap filler, try to avoid food that has corn as the first ingredient.  Potatoes are better.

    Good luck, hope this helps.

  7. Look for foods that have lots of meat (no byproducts) listed in their first ingredients.

    Avoid wheat, corn and soy.

    No ethoxyquin, BHA, BHT

Expect to pay $40 and up for a large bag of food. You didn't mention what size or age your dog is and that could make a difference.

Brands that I usually recommend - Innova, California Natural, Wellness, Timberwolf Organics, Canidae, Taste of the Wild, Eagle Pack (Holistic Select line only), Nature's Variety, Merrick Before Grain, Orijens, Natural Balance.

Hopefully you should be able to find at least one of these locally!

If its a brand you've seen advertised on tv, chances are its full of garbage because their budget is spent on advertising not good quality food.

  8. Well I have a dog and we feed her a brand called ( Wellness )

it comes in a 6 LBS ( 2.7 kg ) package it is a very good food with all natural ingredients and it is is about  $18.00

I live in Canada so if you live in the states it is most likely cheaper,

        Hope I helped

  9. ~ I feed all of my dogs Orijen 6 Fresh Fish.  It runs about $67.99 for a 29 pound bag that last me two weeks.  For some that is a lot of money, especially at the rate we go through it but to me, it is priceless.  I think it is a very quality dog food!

  10. We feed Kirkland, and have had great success with it. It runs about $23 for a 40 pound bag.

Here is a link to help you evaluate foods on your own. Yes, it is over simplified, but it does a good job of showing you what to look for in a food.

    Good luck!

  11. Not all pet food is made equally. A lot of it is full of corn, by-products, dyes, unhealthy preservatives, filler grains and all sorts of nasty stuff. A lot of pet food companies are perfectly happy to dump cheap leftovers in. Will it kill your dog? No, it has to be nutritionally complete and safe to even be marketed. Is it healthy? Not by a long shot.

Corn is a low quality ingredient you never want to see in your pet food. Corn and low quality grains are two of the biggest culprits when it comes to food allergies in our pets.

Thankfully, there are some excellent dog foods being made these days that include organic, human grade ingredients rather than trash not fit for human consumption.

Examples of low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Pedigree, Kibbles n' Bits, Beneful, Ol'Roy.

Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae All Life Stages, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature's Variety Prairie, Nature's Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix.

Although the high quality foods are more expensive, you're getting what you're paying for. Less filler material means more concentrated nutrients... this means you typically need to feed far less of the high quality food than you would of the low quality one. Which also means less p**p!

A great option is to go with an entirely grainless diet. Many of the high quality foods now put out grainless formulas. Some good grainless diet's include: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature's Variety Instinct, Orijen, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now! and Sold Gold Barking At The Moon, Taste of the Wild.

Some of the high end foods can be found in common pet stores. Petsmart carries Blue Buffalo products (such as the excellent grain free diet Blue Wilderness). Petco carries Wellness and Solid Gold. If you can't find a food, most of the high quality food brands have websites with store locators on them.

Remember that foods should be switched gradually, especially when switching to a higher quality one, so as not to upset tummies.

Another option for feeding dogs is to feed raw. This is something that should be thoroughly researched before being attempted:
