When I was in NJ the surcharge was on average about $100 per point per year.  It is probably more now because rates have gone up.  The points will be added to your next renewal after the ticket is posted on your driving record.  Which will be after you pay for the ticket.  It will stay on the policy for 3 full policy years.

    Say you got your ticket today, you paid on Sept 1st, your policy renewal is 1/1/09.  Your surcharge will be added on 1/1/09 and stay on until 1/1/2012.

    As to the surcharge, call your agent or your company for an exact amount.  You do not need to say you got a ticket, just say what is the charge per point if you got a ticket.
