  1. My sister in law just got her bill- she had a c-section and it was $25,000- paid by insurance.

  2. depends on what hospital you go too. We do not have insurance and our baby is due August 24th. so we have been paying everything out of pocket. :( the OBGYN that we used we had to pay $2000 up front and that does not include test that are included. and I called the hospital we was wanting to go to and they said for a normal delivery and stay is will cost us $11k... hope this helps

  3. Without insurance?   That depends where you are.  Pre-natal care and delivery/hospital (with no problems) cost around $10,000

  4. Its sort of complicated to explain, but when you have insurance, they charge a different fee than if you don't. I have had 2 children with maternity coverage and only paid $450 total for everything- OB visits, ultrasounds, 3 days in the hospital for C-section, etc... But the bill each time was well over $25,000. With our 3rd, I did not have maternity coverage and so I immediately contacted my OB and they set me up on a payment plan. I paid $450 for 4 months- that was for the OB visits and ultrasounds. Then, I contacted the hospital and since I knew I would be having another c-section, I was able to pay an upfront cost of only $4000. for the whole thing. If I had waited and paid AFTER the baby was born, I would have been charged the full price of over $20,000 . So, as you can see, there are ways to deal with them and the costs involved. I actually liked being a self-paying patient better than having the maternity coverage because they treated me nicer and also, I was in full control of all the decisions, not my insurance company.

  5. It doesn't matter, even if you don't have any insurance hospital's are required to treat you for emergency pre-natal care and delivery. So when you  have the baby they will put you in some sort of state health insurance and you and your baby will have that until the baby is 1 month old, after that you just need to go to your welfare office and apply for health insurance.

  6. I had insurance, but my co-pay was $1000 total.  My overall bill was like 20k though.
