Recently I bought a a house, which has Gas boiler installed in the kitchen. But there is no gas cooker point. All the gas pipes are outside on the wall. The previous owner told me that it is easier to add extra gas pipe if the pipes are outside on the wall(instead of under the floor). She has also told that, she had gas cooker in the past, but there was some gas leak once, so she has got all the pipes re-installed. At the time of re-installation the pipe to the cooker point was removed, as she went for electric cooker. Now, we want to add extra pipe to the cooker point. How much it would cost approximately? Thank you for your help.

  1. No one can tell you, without looking at the job you need to see what is involved ??  Get someone who is a registered gas fitter to come and give you a price this is normally free.

When the work is completed make shore you get a certificate from the company or person for insurance purposes.

  2. OK UK Guy, You don't say where in the world you live, or what sort of floor the house has, in the UK its usual to have wooden floors and have the gas pipe enter by a meter, unless you are in a remote location and have Calor gas when it will be a regulator. The charge in the UK will depend on how much pipe is needed and how long the work takes. Taking up floor boards and getting access under kitchen units all adds to the time needed to complete a job. However some houses have an access point to get under the floor , this is more usual when the house is older, has a cellar or is on a hill, where there is plenty of space under the floor. Usualy there are steps up to the front or back door if there is underfloor space.    In the UK A gas fitter has to be  be CORGI. registered to work legally. they will have studied and worked for  three years minimum to gain their qualification, equivalent to a degree course, and they have to take an exam periodically to ensure they are up to date with all developments, something that the government are only now considering that doctors should do.

A gas fitter charges around £25 per hour. A good one will give you an estimate of how long the job will take when they have had a look at the situation, they should also give you a good estimate of the price, and the disruption to the house that will be necessary to fit the pipe. if the gas pipe is all fitted on the outside of the house it should be sheathed to protect it from accidental damage.

  3. If British Gas do it then it will be around £300-£350. Get a CORGII registered plumber/heating eng and it will be a days work at around £175.
