  1. Think of the most outrageous prices you have ever been charged (in US$), take the $ sign off the front, put a £ sign there instead and you will be getting close.

We have a phrase: 'rip-off Britain' which sums up the mood here. Example: We are paying around US$8.30 per US Gallon for our unleaded gas.

You will enjoy England and the cold, rainy, rubbish weather, but London is the most expensive part of an expensive country.  Bring as much money as you can, and be very, very careful with it! Good luck.

  2. you will need about £100 for food a month, thats living on a  budget

The rent is pricey in central london, so the furthest away is best... I think most students live in shared accomodation...you will need to be have an income of 30,000 UK sterling at least per year to make ends meet living in the suburbs. Only VERY rich people live in the centre and not an option for the average person.  But perhaps there could be cheaper ways around the further out you go or if a family was prepared to rent a room to you. Should also be some good student accomodation sites on the net.

Do not forget that there are lots of other nice places in the UK other than London where people are more friendly who would help you more with your english studies and you can always visit London from time to time.

    Good Luck

  3. A lottery jackpot or 2 should help you for a few months....

  4. Living in London is very expensive, you'll need to share a flat with one or more people to reduce the costs. Find out if the place you are studying at offers help with accomodation, some of them do. Food is reasonably priced, as long as you chose the cheaper supermarkets like Asda or Tesco. Transport can be expensive too, avoid cabs because often they're a rip-off. Walk whenever possible.
