How much jail time can you get for buying cigarettes for minors?

If a department and or judicial system has nothing better to do than to throw someone behind bars for such a minor act, then this country's in deep moral decay...no different that that gal that went behind bars for her $30 worth over due books.  It's easy to nail someone for such a infraction, than a group of investigators finding a murderer...what a terrible sense of service of the public.

The punishment depends upon what the law in your particular state/province is.  Sometimes it's a ticket and a fine, but it could be jail time as well.  I recommend that you do not do this.

depends on ware ur at i've been arrested quite a few times but they give me my smokes back at the same time they give my license back that identifies me as a minor, cops here don't care.  

   besides why are you worried about it any ways its not like the cop behind you is gonna follow you out of the store to watch what u do with them.

You can check with law libraries to find the statue and many statutes will tell the penalty and whether misdemeanor and in what degree. I doubt it is a felony (which could be a year or more in jail).  So I'd guess at misdemeanor.  It could be corruption of minor or violation of specific statute.  You may be able to find your state statute on line and check that.    most statutes tell of the penalties in terms of years or months, but may not list monetary fines.
