My daughter loves apple juice and always asks for it over water and milk (she's 2). I'm wondering how much is ok for her to have each day?

  1. My son gets no more than 4oz.

  2. As little as possible is appropriate for a toddler.  Toddlers who drink juice drink it instead of getting good nutrition from food and/or milk.  In other words, when they get calories from juice they don't also get more calories from food but instead less calories from food.  Plus it can be really hard on teeth.

Cut her apple juice with water, by half, and limit it to however much you feel comfortable with - like once a day in the morning or something like that.  It can be a treat for her too instead of a necessity.

  3. My 4 year old is still similar. Diluting with water helps a bit. I'd say about two cups a day, since that'd only equal about one, since diluted. I know it's hard but at some point you have to put your foot down and just say milk or water.

  4. To be honest as long as she is getting adequate nutrition and still eating all her meal let her have it. My daughter loves apple juice and goes through about four glasses a day. If you are adding water there isn't much to worry about.

  5. I give my daughter diluted juice....3/4 juice and 1/4 water.  I give her 2 ~ 4 ounce cups a day.  I make a concious effort to brush her teeth each night now though because the sugar from the juice can lead to decay.  AHHHH...they grow up so quick!  LOL!

  6. I don't know how much juice a toddler is allowed although I know doctors prefer none. It doesn't really offer much nutritional value (I've heard if you're going to have the juice, you might as well have the fruit) and can also have added sugars and such.

However, I understand the persistence of a 2yr old :) I would make it a rule that she has milk at breakfast and dinner and she can have juice at lunch, then water throughout the rest of the day.

    Good luck!

  7. 4-6 ounces a day. If juice is the only way she gets fruit intake, then 8 oz is appropriate. If you dilute it with water throughout the day, she will be fine.

  8. Always dilute it, like half and half. Only offer once per day like at a snack time, the right kind can serve as a serving of fruit. Too much sugar will fill her up giving empty calories and also rot her teeth! Talk to your doctor if youre concerned.
