  1. Land Losses - Germany lost land to a number of other countries. Alsace-Lorraine was given to France, Eupen and Malmedy were given to Belgium, North Schleswig was given to Denmark. Land was also taken from Germany and given to Czechoslovakia and Poland.  Anschluss - Germany was not allowed to unite with Austria.  The League of Nations took control of Germany's colonies:

    Before 1919, Germany had colonies, and lost them through the Treaty of Versailles:  These colonies and territories that were taken away from Germany were:

    Tanganyika  ("German East Africa")

    Southwest Africa

    Cameroons

    Togoland

    Tsingtao ("German sphere of influence" zone in China)

    German New Guinea (just north of Australia)

    Here are some facts from the mainland (not including the overseas colonies and territories):

    Area in the year 1910 (before WW1):  

    540,857.54 km²   (208,826 sq mi)

    Area in the year 1925 (after WW1 and Treaty of Versailles):

    468,787 km²   (181,000 sq mi)

    The amount of change was:

       72,070 km²   ( 27,826 sq mi)

  3. They lost all of there colonies overseas. They were divided up between the victors, they lost 12% of there homeland. France, Belguim, and Denmark all took land. Czecholzakia was carved out of part of Germany. Poland split Germany into two. Seperating Prussia from Germany. This straw broke the camal's back with most Germans. The city of Danzig was put under International control and the coal rich region Saarland was also put under International control.
