Also, is it possible for 1 or 2 people to raise enough food to last through the cold seasons? I means fruits, vegetables, herbs, grains. Maybe you could smoke or make jerky from some meats--though keeping the animals might be difficult for person, to feed them and tend to them.

  1. It is evident that you have never lived on a farm.

Go to school and learn "agriculture," and then, buy a farm.

For if you have not, planted you crops. It is now to late. <}:-})

  2. If people know how to properly farm/what vegetables to grow, You need 20 square acres/person to survive a year.

  3. I will say about 100 acres

  4. Big difference if you are vegetarian or not.  If you want meat, you'd need some 6-8 acres per person.  The conversion of vegetative matter to animal food source is not that efficient.

If you can lay off the meat, you are in the 1-2 acre range per person.  We have several small gardens, totalling just maybe 500 square feet.  These supply about 1/2 of our vegetables for the whole year.  An acre is some 48,000 square feet.  Do the math.

  5. Depends on what you want to grow. One acre can produce, say, 4 tons a year of grains be it rice, wheat, corn, etc. More than what a family of 4 could eat. Yields are higher for potatoes, over 30 tons a year per acre.

If you want meat you have to grow food not just for you but for the animals. I suggest you raise pigs and feed them potatoes and a little soy for protein.
