I am putting 2 clown fish, lion, blennie, and a couple angelfish. I have 15 pounds of live rock in there now. I'm not sure how much to put in there though. I'm thinking 1lb per 3 gals. Let me know please.

  1. The more rock you have the better the natural filtration.... So if you want to take this hobby seriously the more the better also look into live plants it will help to balance out the tank... Find a local pet store not a commercial store ie. Petco .....And get to know the owner he will be your best answer person !!!

  2. 1 pound per gallon.actually, there's no set amount.takes up space, where water could be.so a 55 may become a 30 if you know what i mean.it may be too small for 6 fish.the lion does'nt fit.he'll grow the fastest, and look @ his tankmates as dinner.and you'll be surprised@what he can stuff in his mouth,(unless he's a dwarf )variety, and the others are way bigger,in which the 55 will be too small anyway.make sure you get good looking live rock, too.what kinda'angels?

  3. Well, if you really want that lion fish- remember that any other fish you have that will fit in its mouth- will end up there.

A general rule of thumb is 1lb live rock/ 1.5 gallons of water- but this does not calculate higher quality rock that is less dense(so weighs less).

Instead of worrying about live rock- why not check out what fish you're thinking of putting into that tank- correct tank mates can sometimes mean life or death.
