Universities have minimums for graduation, they require you to spend a certain amount before they will issue a degree, like NAU requires 56 credits, that is about $8000.00 dollars.

But community colleges never tell you, so they can get all they can out of you first, I have 2 AAS's and an AGEC, but my university will not accept more than 64 credits, and it turns out not all of my credits are transferable, what does this mean? that our education standards aren't worth anything until you've paid each school what they want ! Sadly enough by the time you're this far along you just end up putting up with it, this is why students don't care about their grades anymore, because they know the system is against them anyway...

  1. Your credits may not be transferable for three reasons: (1) the school you want to transfer into only accepts a certain number of transfer credits (they don't want to give you a degree after one semester), (2) the classes you took do not exist at this new school so they can't give you credit for a class they don't offer (especially true if you took courses for a major the school doesn't offer, like nursing or accounting), or (3) your grades in the classes were not sufficient (most require a C or better to transfer the class).

Sounds like you got some bad advice along the way - most academic advisers should have been able to help you pick transferable courses that would work towards a degree.  But often this is hard to do if the student has no clear idea of what they want to do with their degree.

  2. It doesn't tell me that at all - it tells me schools have their own standards.  It is always unwise ot jump to conclusions - especially those obviously driven by emotion.

    Thanks
