  1. untill you look awkward on the pony ( to big ) ponys are strong but in the show circuit you dont want to look like your to big and you have 6 more years to do pony classes ( once your 18 pony classes are out of the picture ) or untill your coach tells you its time to move onto a horse.

  2. you know you are to tall when your feet hang under his belly

  3. You will be able to ride him until your parents sell him.

If for some reason, you can keep him, you should be able to ride him until he's retired as long as you end up 5'3" and keep your weight under 120 or so.  I'm 40 years old, 5'3", 100 lbs, and still  hop on my son's 27 year old 12.3 hand pony from time to time.  He's stocky, like your pony, and I fit on him fine.

  4. I am 5'3" also and 13 years old and i weigh about 100 lbs and i have a 16 year old pony who is 13.2 hand and i am still riding her! and my sister is 2 years older and she is riding one also riding one and pony's are supposed to live till they are 45 so you can ride it for as long as you feel comfortable....  hope this helps!

  5. You can probably ride him for many more years, unless you double your weight all of sudden you should be just fine.  Depends on what you are using him for, really.

  6. dont worry about it.

people are always saying you cant ride ponies blah blah your too big (if you LOOK too big) it doesnt mean the pony cant carry you. it easily can. i mean there is a point where people can get too big for ponies, but it doesnt seem like your anywhere near it.

im 16, 5'8", 125lbs and am training a 13.1HH pony right now.  who can EASILY carry me and possibly a bit more. I had a long talk with my vet about being to big to ride ponies, and she said not even for me to worry about it. because alot of people say your too big, just because you look big on them. ponies are very strong.

so just ride and have fun!!! :)

  7. yes you can ride the pony as long as you want

My Sister has a pony 13.2 hh ......

    she got at age 8

"at the time the pony was 3 years old "

and she is 25 now and 5'6 and

    about 115 lds. and

she still rides her pony and he does just fine

he looks like this to give you an idea

she also has a 15 hh Arabian she rides.

but there's nothing like your best friend "your first pony"

  8. When you don't loon proportioned on him (like too big) quit riding him. Unless you are really tiny and don't weigh much then it probably wouldnt be a problem.

  9. a long time ponys are strong they can handle 85 pounds with no problem

  10. Sorry to tell you but probably not much longer. 5.3 is the same as me and I ride a 15.3 horse! You are pretty tall so it will be harder for you to balance on your pony, and harder for you to sit on because your legs will swing because they will reach past the pony's belly. You are quite light so you might be able to get away with it.

If you compete, then you might be able to keep your pony until you are 14, as long as you don't get a lot taller. This way you can get a new horse bigger than 14.2 and then you can enter senior classes. If you get a big horse now you can't enter junior because the horse is too big, or senior because you are too young. Make sense? I dont know if I explained it too well lol.

  11. u can ride ur pony until he or she dies because a full grown man can ride a shetland pony so i think u could still ride urs for a long wile

  12. If you are asking because of your ponies age, he can be ridden for a very long time because 9 years old is actually pretty young. I have a small quarter horse that is 25 years old and I still ride him. In fact I ride him pretty hard, on long trail rides, cantering etc.

Now if you are asking because you're going to be getting older, that is a different issue. If you aren't that tall you might be able to ride him for quite some time. My quarter horse is practically a pony himself, he is only 14.2 hands. I am an adult male and he has no problems carrying me around.

    Cheers,

    David

  13. dont worry

  14. just ride it, that pony.

  15. ride him untill you can tell for sure that your too big

  16. rill you look like you dont fit him

  17. If you take proper care of your pony, he could live another 15 years, give or take a few. As long as you also take proper care of yourself & don't get over-weight, there's no reason that I know of to prevent your riding him until you are no longer in proportion to him. If you don't grow over 5'3" or 5'4", that should be a long time. If he starts to slow down, or acts as if he is carrying too much, I think you'll notice this and act accordingly. Even then, short, easy rides would probably still be good for both of you. We're all better off with some exercise, no matter how old.

  18. im 5'7"  and my sister had a 13 hand high pony that i used to ride all the time...lol and i weighed 130

  19. you can ride him as much as you want, your not too heavy for him, your legs might hang off him a lil but other then that you should be fine to rid ehim as your are now. But showing him the judges might not like to see that you are too biig for your pony. Th eonly reason i am still with my pony is because no one else can handel him so im stuck with him lol

  20. i guess until your fat crushes him and he dies

  21. in my opinion, if the pony is comfortable and you are within reasonable height/weight ratio to the pony, you should be able to keep riding him for awhile.

  22. If you're only supposed to get to about 5'3, and you're not very heavy, you can probably keep riding him lightly until he's about 15.  As long as you don't do too much on him and get off when he seems like he's getting pretty tired, he should be fine.  There are also some great excercises for building back strength in horses/ponies.  It's especially good for when they start getting older, to prevent sway-backing.

  23. 22 hrs. 4 min. and 7 secs. left!!!

  24. As long as your vet says that he's strong enough to hold your weight, you should be fine.

  25. Hun, if your only 85lbs now and your supposed to be short, your obviously built thin. Don't worry about it. Once you get past around 150lbs is when you should move on : P

  26. i'm 5'5''' and i still ride my freinds 13.1 hand pony

my legs don't even go past his barrel but he's also a stouter pony and i weight 110lbs

    he's so cute! =)

i can even jump him 2ft perfectly i'm not to big for him so far!

  27. I think you'll know if you shouldn't ride him anymore.

As far as his age, he's young.  I have a 26 year old Thoroughbred, whose about 16 hands and I weigh quite a bit more than you and we still trail ride.

  28. Ride your pony and have fun, you will be just fine. I weigh more than you and one of mine is just 14 hands.

    Have fun!!!

  29. hes fine.

horses can carry alot of weight and u are light. ride him for a little longer, finish off the year then mayb up grade to another horse.
