I have been waiting for naturalization since 2006 because I was stuck in FBI name check. I recently heard that my name check is cleared. How much longer do I have to wait for the interview?

  1. Background checks can take as little as 30 days to 2 years. There's no way of finding out where in the process you are and hwo much longer it will take. If you ask your congressman to inquire, they'll turn you back because there's nothing they can do either.

The reason that it takes a long time is depending on your cuontry of citizenship and birth, if the country does not "cooperate" with the US, the FBI and CIA have a difficult time conducting a name check (see if you're on any terrorist lists, wanted by any country, etc.).

All you can really do, unfortunately, is sit back and wait. I have read in some cases where a check was pending for 2+ yrs that someone formally sued USCIS and the background check got expidited. That sounds like a bunch of trouble though..
