I am very worried at the high demand for oil and the usage of this product in todays society. Can someone estimate how much longer we have of this extremely important product?

  1. not long seeing how many countreis are already starting to run low on oil.  probably by 2020 or less..most likely

  2. I hear 200 years but everyone has a different answer

  3. How long?  That's going to depend on what we do and how we do it.  We can push the timeline back by becoming frugal with oil resources and by providing cost-effective alternatives.  A lot of questions here. Not that many answers, not yet.

Mitigation and Contingency plans are needed, and in many cases, underway.

  4. According to the Saudi Oil Minister, the peak year for oil production was 2006 and world production has been falling ever since that.

  5. I think there are vast reserves yet to be discovered and/or tapped into. There is a possibility that oil may be renewable. See article http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTI... . I am not agreeing or disagreeing with the article but do think it is very interesting. Also, other sources of energy still need to be persued.

  6. I have heard that there is enough oil to last another 100 to 200 years at our current usage.  With the research into replacement fuels for oil continuing, I would not worry about this.  The above time table is if we excavate all oil resources.  Considering that there are vast areas of oil off limits in the United States currently this figure could end up lower.

  7. It depends on who you believe. Some say its already running out and will all but be gone by 2020 or so

Others say there is enough to last another 100 years.
