How much mahr?

How much do guys usually pay as mahr (dowry) in Egypt? Would like 20,000 LE be good?

It can be any amount of money, it really depends on your wealth, social standard etc. People can tell u L.E20,000 and they would be right, others can tell u L.E 1 million and they can also be right. There is no magical forumla, I think the best way is to actually ask the parents while proposing. In most cases they will tell u whatever u can afford son and then u decide based on your savings, income etc how much to pay. If they tell u an amount, it is up to you then to decide the next move.

nowadays there is no mahr at all....its sth obligable in Islam...but due to the hard times we are living ppl stopped asking fot MAHR....instead they write sth called (ka2met mankolat) states all the things in the apartment ...this paper stays with the brides father.....
