How much math do I need to be an Actuary?

Specifically, what classes (like Calc-based probability and what not)..

  1. An actuary should take at least two years of Calculus, Calculus based courses in Probability and Statistics and a course in Linear Algebra at a minimum.  More advanced classes would be a good idea.

    Most Actuaries have a stronger Math background than the average person with a BS in Math.


  2. Go on any college web site and check out classes for a math major or statistics major. They will list the courses need for all four years

  3. Your best bet is to declare as a Math Major with an emphasis in Statistical Analysis or Statistics. As you seem to know, Actuarial Science is statistics. Best advice is to call a math department and just ask them! That is what advisement is for!
