  1. my father is diabetic and so is my grandmother.

whole grains are best. Whole wheats don't work as well.

oatmeal is supposed to help lower cholesteral BUT i am unsure if is concidered a whole grain...i think it is, oatmeal is a whole entire grain but processed.

now corn is naturally high in sugar. no corn flakes, flour and corn are both high in carbs. a diet high in carbs will increase your blood sugar.

my dad eats nothing but whole grains, oatmeal, meat and low fat stuff. he took a diabetic training course on how to manage his food to help his condition. things to avoid and things that are good for him. the classes were covered by his insurance and also they provided him with a glucose monitor. see if you can get the same program through your medical. just an idea. dont have to do it.

  2. Milk has about 12 grams of carbs per 500ml, corn flakes 24 grams per cup.  My fasting number was 83 this morning and I know I would not be able to tolerate that as a breakfast.  With a FBG of 145 you need to re-evaluate your daily intake of carbs.  The closer to 100 or even below that you can get your blood glucose the less long term problems you will have, things like blindness, heart attacks, kidney failure or amputations.  Why not try foods that will bring those numbers down to a safe range.
