  1. Well of course the answer is "It varies" It will depend upon a number of factors. Some breeds give more than others. Friesans (the black and white ones) are large beasts and generally produce a greater quantity of milk. Jersey cows are smaller but give a higher percentage of butter fat in the milk. Generally speaking a cow that is free to range will burn up more energy than one that is fed without walking about and so will produce less milk. Having said that it must be remembered that cows produce milk to feed a calf so after it has just given birth it will be at its maximum production dwindling off until the cow is mated and starts a new cycle.

    If I understand correctly what you are asking because you say "free range" then the answer is "slightly less than an animal in a stall" Also the animal roaming free will probably be eating grass which although at the height of the summer looks very nice, must be remembered it is mainly celulose but if the animal is kept in a stall its diet will probably be supplemented  with high protein food.
