  1. my pediatrican says that 2 year olds should not be having more than 16 0z of milk a day. Also it should only be whole milk. If you are giving your child 1% or 2% they are not getting the vital nutrients that whole milk provides. Also if you are giving more milk than they need, it can be harmful. It will break down the important enzymes in they're bodies.

  2. A glass day and night would do. (50 and 50- Totally 100ml per day would do).

  3. when i took my son for his 2 yr visit with the dr.  The dr said he should only have 2 servings of milk.  But my son still has 3 8 oz's of milk for breakfast lunch and dinner

  4. At that age, I honestly still used Similac Go and Grow formula a couple times a day in a bottle. It lasted until about age 3.

  5. 16-24oz

I just took my daughter for her 2yr old ck up and that's what they told us.  They also said it should be 2%, 1% or skim milk, no whole milk.

  6. I would say about 2-3 serves max.

I don't know if your child is drinking milk or not.... but all he/she needs is about 2-3 serves. If he drinks milk it's great.... if he doesn't I can give you plenty of other substitutes. e.g. green veggies such as brocolli.

I also suggest soy milk (if you look at the packet they have the same calcium content as milk). My child didn't drink milk for a while. I stopped giving her at 10 mths old... then I gave her cheese, lots of it which he liked (try Devendale high calcium cheese, I also gave "stringers" and "babybel" to my daughter as snacks) then I introduced soy milk which she also liked. Then I gave her chocolate milk (add Nestle chocolate powder, they are lower in sugar and has the heart foundations tick!) and now she drinks that.... still not a big fan of milk but she is ok with it twice or three times a week.

How about milkshake.... my daughter doesn't like plain milk but loves milkshake.... when it gets warmer (soon) you can try that.

I can also recommend the Saniterium brand "up and go". I know it is not designed for babies to drink but it has two weetbix plus milk and has very high calcium content. I give my daughter for breakfast sometimes.

Also recommend yoghurt.... there's a Nestle one which is high in calcium.... if you look at the packets and compare the calcium and sugar content you will be able to find one that's high in calcium and low in sugar.

These things can all substitute milk. The purpose of drinking milk is mainly because of the calcium really..... Beware, too much milk is NOT good for your child anyway!!! They can cause child obesity (yes I saw it on news before!) and if you let them have it before bed without brushing teeth it can cause long term tooth decay.

So I reckon you can probably try everything I suggested above.... find a couple that your son likes, and switch them often...... so he doesn't get sick of one.

I hope I answered your question.

  7. I work with children daily. The Australian recommendation is no more than 600ml  or 20 fluid oz per day. After the age of 2 it is alright to offer low fat milk, due to the rising obesity crisis in children, but not skim milk, as children need some 'good' fats for healthy brain development.

If you struggle to achieve 600ml day, then 3-4 serves of other dairy foods or calcium fortified soy milk is fine. If your child consumes more milk than this, then appetite decreases and the child will not consume enough food choices for heathly growth & development.

    Hope this helps you.
